What is Home Blood Collection Service?

It is the process of having blood taken by our professional nurses at the patient’s location, without the need to visit a hospital or laboratory. The entire process—from taking the blood, delivering it quickly to the laboratory under proper conditions, and sharing the results with the patient and their physician—is called the home blood collection service.

How is the Blood Collection Process Performed?

    • The patient is seated for at least 15 minutes before starting the procedure to ensure they are well-rested.
    • The suitability of test tubes is checked for the procedures.
    • The patient is informed and positioned appropriately for the blood draw.
    • The nurse assesses the veins by sight and touch to find the least painful site for the blood draw.
    • A tourniquet is tied 10–15 cm above the area where blood will be drawn.
    • The area is cleaned with 70% alcohol and allowed to dry.
    • The patient is told to keep their arm and wrist straight, to relax, and stay still.
    • An appropriate needle is attached to the tube.
    • The tube holder is supported by the nurse between the thumb and middle finger.
    • The syringe is angled properly and held with the bevel-up position.
    • The needle is inserted about 1 cm under the skin and enters the vein.
    • An appropriate amount of blood is drawn into the tubes.
    • The tourniquet is released.
    • The needle is withdrawn and immediate pressure is applied to the site and bandaged.
    • Pressure is continued on this site for a few more minutes.
    • All waste is disposed of in a medical waste bag.
    • The blood samples are labeled with barcodes and placed in suitable supports.

How Does the Blood Collection Process Work?

An appointment is scheduled for the day and time based on the request from the patient/patient’s relative/physician.

The patient is informed regarding fasting or non-fasting requirements for the requested tests.

The home care nurse brings all disposable supplies such as test tubes, tourniquet, alcohol swab, syringe, plaster, cotton, medical waste box, etc.

Barcodes with the patient’s information are affixed to the tubes.

Blood is collected in accordance with hygiene rules, placed in labeled sample containers, and transferred to the laboratory under proper conditions.

Laboratory results of the blood tests are sent to the patient or their relatives via email and also reported to their primary care physician.

The rest of the treatment process will be shared with you by our specialist doctors.

When Will My Blood Test Results Be Ready?

Complete blood count and biochemistry results are ready within a few hours.

Hormone tests and cultures may take a few days to be completed.

Our home care nurse will inform you in detail about when your results will be available.
